The price of incivility in the workplace is invisible because emotions are very difficult to put into tables in a spreadsheet – the only fully understandable language of business. However, this does not change the fact that the problem exists. Research shows that incivility in the workplace has been on the rise for decades. In 1998, 49% of respondents complained about it; in 2011, the number rose to 55%, and in 2016, it was almost 62%.
Some will say that it is people who change, not the severity of the problem. Yes, but people are the test. The phenomenon is less and less accepted and thus its impact on business is increasing. The growing awareness of the problem, striving for well-being or expectations in terms of work-life balance, changes the perception. Incivility is bad for business and any tool that increases the level of empathy of people in a team helps to alleviate the problem.
